The first image is an early famous shot of the late Princess Diana when she was still Lady Diana Spencer. I believe it was known as the peekaboo picture. I have no idea who the other unfortunate person is. What this post is about is, well: WEAR THE RIGHT UNDERGARMENTS WITH YOUR CLOTHES PEOPLE!!!
Here is something I found on an opinion page that made a lot of sense to me and couldn't say it any better:
Panty Hose are not old fashioned. The right color of panty hose, or thigh highs will finish a brilliant outfit. Unless you have been living in a bubble, have no scars from childhood, a run way model or so graced by nature to have legs that need no cover...feel comfortable enough to go in public bear skinned in a outfit that is not summer wear... go for it. Don't give those of us who wear hosiery grief.
Now for girdles and other undergarments that hold, smooth and polishes to those clingy dresses, pants and suits. There is nothing worse, watching a woman walking in a clingy dress and you can see their belly button, their jiggling backsides when they walk.
Even the stars in Holly-weird will use an undergarment to polish their fashion look. Every woman has something jiggly on them, something that bulges, and irregular skin somewhere on their body. Right now there are smoothing and slimming undergarments flying off shelves of warehouses into the drawers of women. Some of the undergarments really work! They contain the muffin top when a woman chooses to wear jeans that are to tight. They contain their backsides from jiggling all over under a light pair of jeans.
I will never forget the day a beautiful woman came in to the office...she looked amazing in her jogging suit....so I thought. When she turned around there was one big bottom with uneven skin and high cut knickers! What a shock!
Panty Hose were designed to be fashionable, ease chafing between the foot and shoe, keep legs and your feet toasty warm, and hide those physical imperfections that are on many women's legs. In low humid conditions pantie hose can help your legs from becoming too dry. Good support hose for women who are on their feet all day will help with pain, regulate blood circulation and even prevent or help varicose veins. As I mentioned before, if you use the size guide on the label as reference and find the correct size and the right brand that is comfortable, you might just find that using panty hose might help you look as professional as you act on the job.
Don't judge those of us who wear hosiery and proper undergarments. We know what style and look we want to achieve when we get dressed in the morning.

I'm not saying we all have to wear support hose or anything like that but consider the picture above of Diana, what would have helped her? A slip! I love slips! I make my own, but pretty ones can be found for reasonable prices and I love how feminine I feel wearing one. And trust me on this, if the skirt or dress isn't lined, you need one.
And how about white clothing? No polka dot or printed undies! No white either! Flesh color in a tone close to your skin tone works best. Oh, and white really emphasizes what it's worn on making it look larger, just thought you might want to know.
And how about a good bra? The girls should be lifted not sagging. If you've never indulged in a bra fitting, try it, it may change your life. Most of us are wearing the wrong size and don't know it. The right bra will make your clothes fit better.
Recently I attended a wedding where the bridesmaids wore fitted skirts, one of them needed either a girdle or at least Spanx. These can be found at Target or even Walmart and can save you the embarrassment of being photographed from behind and becoming blog fodder.
Also if you do have a bit of the jiggly middle, consider staying away from a low rise jean, the mid rise will look much more flattering on you and take care of the muffin-top that the lower jean causes.
So that's my rant today, I've been sewing quite a bit and will post some pics soon of my most recent projects. All I can say is my fingers are tired! My daughter also wanted me to say how much she hates seeing girls in cute dresses then finishing the look with flip-flops. Flips are for the casual wear, the beach and beach dresses people! Her words not mine!
So that's my two cents.
Terri
So you're saying I shouldn't wear my low cut jeans with my thong?
ReplyDeleteYou just jealous cuz I look good.
